Small Hyperbolic Area

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Hominid detectors have been placed in a perimeter around SCP-XXXX. If unauthorized individuals approach within the boundary or trip the alarm, Stationary Task Force Theta-28 ("Euclid's Rogues") is to intercept, debrief, amnesticize and release them. Personnel making approved expeditions into SCP-XXXX require a steel tether at least 120 meters long. Expeditions deeper than 5 meters into require special approval from the Area Director.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a circular boundary within Yosemite National Park, with a radius of 25 meters. There are four openings 1.3 meters wide, each corresponding to one of the cardinal directions. All other attempted access into SCP-XXXX is blocked by an impassable semi-opaque barrier, seemingly composed of particles manifesting from the ground. Attempts to dig under or fly over the SCP-XXXX have not yielded useful data. Testing with Reality boundary-variety Kant Counters indicates that SCP-XXXX is not a portal or extradimensional extrusion, but is merely an area of normal spacetime subject to unusual warping. One hypothesis suggests this is the result of SCP-████'s effect on spatial curvature.

Despite a Euclidean circle of this size having an area of less than 1970 m2, estimates of the area within SCP-XXXX suggests an area of at least 107 km2.1 Laser measurements have suggested the anomaly exhibits a hyperbolic geometry2 with an R of 1.77. Due to the anomaly's unintiutive geometry and extremely expansive internal area, loss of personnel is a significant risk. To date, no personnel lacking a tether have been recovered.
